End-Of-Year Fiber Construction Update - December 2023

As we approach the close of 2023, our teams are working diligently to complete our open construction projects. Anticipation is building for the start of our 2024 fiber builds. Despite the challenges winter weather presents, we have positioned ourselves to continue the momentum of converting our customers to fiber optic service throughout the winter months. At the same time, we are also actively engineering and designing our future fiber projects.

If you are included in one of our current build areas, we will contact you to let you know that fiber is coming to your location. When your address is ready to be converted, we will reach out to you to schedule your installation. To stay up-to-date on our fiber builds and register your interest, please visit getfiber.wcvt.com.

 This year we:

  • Ran over 170 miles of mainline fiber-optic cable
  • Installed 56 miles of customer drops
  • Converted over 1,000 customers to fiber optic service

While we continue to convert customers to fiber at a record pace, our work is by no means complete. In addition to our technicians, you may see multiple contractors working in your area. We use contractors for field collection, engineering, line construction and buried service drop work. The following contractors are currently working in our area: Eustis Cable Enterprises, JA McDonald, JSI, and Menard and Sons.

Our 2024 construction projects include building fiber in parts of the following communities: Addison, Bolton, Bridport, Charlotte, Fayston, Hinesburg, Huntington, New Haven, North Ferrisburgh, Panton, Richmond, Starksboro, Waitsfield, Waltham, Warren and Weybridge.

What's next if I fall into an area where the fiber-optic network has already been constructed?

At this time, there is nothing you need to do. We will contact you to schedule your fiber installation once your location is ready for conversion. We appreciate your patience during this final construction phase as we work diligently to bring you the best possible internet service.

Here's a brief overview of the process:

  1. Network Construction, Splicing, and Testing: During this state, our team is actively engaged in building the fiber-optic network infrastructure. This involves running cables, splicing connections, and conducting thorough testing to ensure optimal performance. Once completed we move onto installing the actual fiber-optic cable to your home or business.
  2. If you have an Aerial Service Drop: Once all construction, splicing, and testing are complete, we will reach out to schedule your fiber installation. This means that if you currently have an aerial connection, you will be among the first to benefit from the new fiber-optic service.
  3. If you have an Underground Service Drop: Due to the many challenges associated with buried utilities, placing underground service drops is time-consuming, challenging, and requires many resources to properly place. As a result, your build and installation will take longer. But rest assured, this work is a priority and we will reach out just as soon as our crews have completed your drop. If you have an option to place an aerial drop instead of buried, please let us know.

Thank you for being a valued customer. We look forward to providing you with the best possible internet experience

Sincerely,

Eric Haskin
