Happy Spring! We just wanted to provide a brief update on our 2023 fiber projects. Our crews have been working hard to bring fiber throughout our serving area and many of our 2023 construction projects are already well underway. If you are included in one of our build areas scheduled for this year, we will be reaching out to let you know that fiber is coming to your location as our construction progresses.
The Vermont Community Broadband Board (VCBB) recently approved a $9.1 million grant to Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom (WCVT), in partnership with Maple Broadband, to expand fiber-optic broadband in parts of Addison, Bridport, Ferrisburgh, New Haven, Panton, Waltham, and Weybridge. The source of the grant funding is the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). This project will extend WCVT’s fiber-to-the-home network to approximately 2,000 additional customers in parts of Addison County in the Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom service area. The network is capable of delivering broadband speeds of up to 1 Gigabyte.
We are actively building fiber in many of the communities we serve and are spending millions of dollars each and every year to continue the evolution of our network. While we have made a lot of progress, our work isn't done. Building a fiber-optic network takes time and a lot of capital. We are actively seeking state and federal grants to help complement our own capital construction budgets to help accelerate the deployment of fiber to more of our customers.
