December 2022 Fiber-to-the-Home Update

It's already been a very busy year and our employees have been working hard continuing the evolution of our network. We enhanced our Internet bandwidth and network resiliency by adding fiber-optic connections to Internet peering points in Boston and New York. We've also recently reached a milestone and have now converted more than 7,500 customers to high-speed fiber-optics and that number continues to grow every day.   But, we are by no means complete and there is a lot of work left to be done. We are also working with several of Vermont’s Communications Union Districts (CUD's) to help bring fiber to more of Vermont's unserved and underserved communities. 

In 2022, we invested approximately $9 million dollars in the communities we serve as we continue the evolution of our network and maximize the number of customers we convert to fiber-optics. We are also aggressively applying for additional state and federal grants to complement our own capital investments in our network. We recognize that we can't get to everyone overnight, but please know that every single dollar we invest in fiber is benefiting Vermont and the local communities we serve. Building fiber to everyone will take time, but each and every day, we are making progress.

I know for many, the need for additional bandwidth is real. Building a fiber-to-the-home network in rural areas is extremely expensive and takes time and we appreciate your patience. We are spending millions of dollars each and every year to continue the evolution of our network. In addition, we are actively seeking state and federal grants to help complement our own capital construction budgets to help accelerate the deployment of fiber to more of our customers.
