2025 Fall Fiber Update

We’re Building Fiber – And Making Great Progress!

As fall settles in, we’re excited to share an update on the progress we’ve made expanding our fiber-optic network this year. Thanks to the hard work of our construction crews and partners, we continue to make significant strides. So far this year, we've run:

  • 205 miles of aerial mainline fiber.
  • 93 miles of mainline fiber and service drops.

Our crews are hard at work this construction season, and your prompt response helps keep everything on schedule. Whether it’s returning a call, responding to a door tag, or booking your installation appointment, every step helps us get you and your neighbors connected faster.

We’re currently working in the following towns: Hinesburg, Huntington, North Ferrisburgh, Richmond, Starksboro, Waltham, Monkton, Bristol, and Lincoln—along with several other areas where we’re completing remaining work. This primarily includes running additional customer drops and completing conversions.

I don't have fiber yet, what can I expect?

Building a fiber-optic network is a complex, multi-step process. Here’s a quick look at what goes into it:

  1. Strand and Mainline Fiber Installation – We run fiber along utility poles and install any necessary underground sections.
  2. Fusion Splicing & Electronics – Our teams splice the fiber, install electronics, and set up splitter cabinets.
  3. Network Testing & Turn-Up – We ensure everything is working perfectly before moving to the next phase.
  4. Service Drops & Installations – Once the network is live, we begin running drops to homes and scheduling customer installations.

These are large-scale infrastructure projects with many moving parts, and we appreciate your patience as we work to bring fast, reliable fiber internet to your community.

Stay Informed

If your location is included in one of our current build areas, we will contact you to let you know that fiber is coming to your area. When your address is ready for conversion, we’ll reach out to schedule your installation. To stay informed and register your interest, please visit: getfiber.wcvt.com

A Seasonal Reminder

As we head into the colder months, we will continue to convert customers who have drops pre-run. Please note that our underground construction work typically wraps up once the ground freezes—usually sometime in December. However, some buried work—especially service drops—may carry over into next year’s construction season, depending on weather conditions and project timelines.

Meet the Team Behind the Build

While we’re converting customers to fiber at an unprecedented rate, our work is far from complete. In addition to our in-house technicians, you may notice several contractors working in your area. We rely on these partners for field collection, engineering, line construction, and buried service drop work.

We currently have 18 contractors working alongside our technicians to keep the momentum going. Current contractors include:

  • Eustis Cable Enterprises
  • Henkels & McCoy
  • JA McDonald
  • JSI
  • Menard and Sons
  • Stone Underground
  • TTS

Thank you for your continued support as we expand our fiber-optic network. We’re proud to be building the future of connectivity—right here in your community.
